PRIME Minister Boris Johnson has promised he will raise the matter of the Falklands fishery in the European Union, after Labour MP Derek Twigg made representations on behalf of the Islands at Prime Minister’s Question Time on Wednesday.
WHILE the Falkland Islands Government has made public assurances that it has worked hard to ensure the impact of Brexit on the Falklands, (including its fishery which is set to be hit by crippling tariffs) has been fully understood by the UK government, the harsh truth is zero representations have been made on behalf of the Falklands to the EU.
UNLESS there is significant change in the British Government’s attitude the Falklands seafood industry will very shortly face a serious problem as a result of high tariffs on Falklands seafood products, the Falkland Islands Fishing Companies Association (FIFCA) has made clear.
